Sagra, he had missed her

Froi tiptoed into her room ... He crept to it's entrance. He knew what was in there ... who was in there. He could hear the steady breathing of the boy, the strange little sounds of sleepy satisfaction.
An arm was instantly around his neck. A dagger to his throat. A savage noise in his ear. Sagra. How he had missed her.
"You'll only make a small hole there," he whispered. "Not fatal. Inconvenient, really."

So ... i reread 'Quintana of Charyn' the other day. ... ... GAH! Quintana and Froi are officially my OTP. i absolutely love them together and I especially love both their reunion scene and their last scene together. They're both gorgeous.

For those of you out of the loop, Quintana grew up had an indescribably difficult life before Froi came into her life. She literally had two souls living in her body, her own and and her dead twin sister's. The twin sister died close after birth and her soul latched itself onto the closest living thing - her sister, the Princess Quintana. Because of this everyone in the kingdom thought that Quintana was mad because only one soul could present itself at one time, so sometimes she would be herself, and sometimes she would have to surrender her body to her sister. But everyone else thought they were just one person with an erratic and dangerous personality.
Froi, who also had a rough childhood which I won't go into now, was the first person who really took the trouble to know Quintana, albiet reluctantly. However they end up falling in love and having a son. Froi is also an assasin, and he teaches Quintana to defend herself. For various reasons Froi needs to leave before the baby is born, and only comes back months later...

If you're interested these two amazing characters come from 'The Lumatere Chronicles' by Melina Marchetta. The first in the series in called "Finnikin of the Rock". Froi and Quintana's story doesn't become central until the second book (it's a trilogy) however you really need to read the first book to understand the rest of the series.
